The Civil was fought by the south and the Northern states on the debate of slaves in 1863. The Southern states were called the confederate states, and the North was called the union. The leader of the North was Abraham Lincoln. The south was Jefferson Davis. The war lasted for 5 years. In May 1865, The confederate states surrendered to the union, abolishing slavery from the U.S. After the war, the 13th, the 14th, and the 15th amendments were added to the constitution.
